Comfort Parker. He married
Sarah Harney on 22 November 1787.

NICHOLAS COUNTY COURT OF CARLISLE, KENTUCKY.
------ Know all men by these presents: That I, John Shankland, of the State of Kentucky and County
of Nicholas, being in a reasonable state of health of body and of sound mind and memory, thanks
be to God for the same, and calling to mind the mortality of my body and the necessity of a will
to keep peace and unity amongst my heirs, do make and ordain this my last will and testament:
And first, I recommend my soul to God, that gave it to me, in and through the merits of Jesus
Christ, and my body I desire may be buried in a decent manner. And as to such worldly estate
as it has pleased God to endow me with, all I dispose of in ;the way and manner following, to-wit:
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son, Benjamin Shankland, fifty cents.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Polly Stoops, fifty cents.
Item: I give and bequeath unto the Heirs of my daughter, Hetty Blount, dec'd., fifty cents.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son, David Shankland, fifty cents.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my son, Robert M. Shankland, fifty cents.
Item: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Sarah Shankland, all my personal estate, both
in the house and out of doors, during her natural life and also the use of the farm. At the
expiration of which, all my personal estate is to be equally divided between my sons, James H.
and Andrew, and my grand-daughter, Elizabeth P. Shankland.
Item: I give and bequeath unto James H. Shankland and Andrew Shankland the farm on which
I now reside with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging, to be equally and evenly divided, to
them and their heirs forever.
Given under my hand and seal, this 25th day of July, 1834.

NICHOLAS COUNTY COURT SCT. OGT. TERM, 1834.
This instrument in writing purporting to be the last will and testament of John Shankland, dec'd.,
was on this day produced in open court, and proved by the oaths of Robert West & Samuel
Dinsmore, the subscribing witnesses thereto. Whereupon said last will & testament is confirmed,
established and ordered to be recorded, which is done.
