Oct. 8 with a famiy dinner hosted by their children in the Patio Restaurant.

Mr. Shankland and the former Mildred Aalbers were married Oct. 10, 1939, in St. Francis
Catholic Church in Quincy by the late Rev. Garcias Behnen, OFM. Their attendants were Alice
Aalbers Wiskirchen, Mary Dugan Sinovic, the late Richard E. Aalbers, Jack T. Shankland and
Martin Wellman.

Mrs. Shankland is the daughter of the late Mary and Bernard E. Aalbers. Mr. Shankland is the
son of the late Charlotte and Clinton Shankland.

They are parents of Richard B. Shankland and Michael J. Shankland, both of Quincy. They have
four grandchildren.

Mrs. Shankland is a member of St. Peter Altar Society, St. Barbara Branch of the Western
Catholic Union and American Contract Bridge League and is a volunteer for the Adams County
Health Department.

Mr. Shankland retired after 40 years with Illinois Bell Telephone Co.

They are members of St. Peter Catholic Church and are Secular Franciscans..

Carolyn Elizabeth Shankland, 51, of 1111 N. 22nd, died at 6:06 p.m. Monday (July 25, 1994) in her home.
Born July 31, 1942, in Quincy, Mrs. Shankland was a daughter of Harold and Alvera Zehnle Maas.
She married Dick Shankland, on Oct. 5, 1963, in St. Francis Catholic Church. He
survives. (This shoulb be Richard Bernard JNS)
Mrs. Shankland had worked at Sears for 20 years, most recently as a sales associate in the drapery department.
She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, the Adams County Homemakers
Extension Association and the Ladies of St. Francis. She also was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital, a lector at the church, was active as a blood donor and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include a son, Gregory of Quincy; two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Kathy) Rayhel of Merritt Island, Fla., and Linda Shankland of Springfield; her mother, Alvera Maas of Quincy; three brothers, William, David and Roger, all of Quincy; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Alice) Meckes
of Kansas City, Mo; and three grandchildren, Shannon Robertson and Kourtni Shankland, both
of Quincy, and Jessica Rayhel of Merritt Island.
Mrs. Shankland was preceded in death by her father.
Services will be conducted Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the Duker and Haugh Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Francis Catholic Church by the Rev. Eugene Middendorf. Burial will be in Calvary
Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be made to St. Francis School or the American Red Cross..
