Shankland of this city, from Friday's Virgina Gazette: "James Shankland of Oregon precinct. died suddenly Saturday evening at his home which is near Sylvan. He was in apparent good health at supper time and ate heartly but shortly afterward complained of neuralgic pains in his stomach. These gradually changed to his shoulders and because of their intensity he asked for medicine to ease his sufferings. A messenger was dispatched to a neighbors house for the desired remedy, but before he returned the pains reached the heart of the suffer and death occured shortly after midnight. The funeral took place Monday morning ________ o'clock at the Shankland chapel and the remains were interred in the cemetery near by. The deceased was about 50 years of age and leaves a wife and six sons, four of whom are grown to manhood. He was highly respected and had a large circle of friends who regret his death." . |
